WHAT IS IT?
The HBA has a Parade of Homes in the spring every year. It lasts for two weekends in a row on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Before the Parade opens, a Parade Gala Dinner Event is held, usually on the preceding Thursday evening, to present awards and kick-off the Parade.
The Parade of Homes Committee plans, prepares, and ensures a smooth Gala event and Parade for Members and the public.
Since the Parade of Homes is such a large extravaganza, all talents, experience, and career paths are welcome and helpful.

WHAT DO COMMITTEE MEMBERS DO?
All Committees are the work horses of the HBA. On a Committee, you brainstorm, research, debate, present, and find ways to improve the HBA. What do the Members want? What will add to the Value of Membership? Start with: What do you want?
If you join the Parade of Homes Committee, you will help choose the award categories, advertising, dates, budget, entry and public marketing materials, and the general flow of the Parade and its Gala.
HOW OFTEN DO THEY GATHER?
Monthly before and after the spring Parade with the fall and early winter off. Usually, about seven meetings per year.
In late spring, there is a wrap-up meeting to establish lessons-learned and improvement ideas for future Parades. Then, there is no activity for a few months. In late summer or early fall, the Committee begins meeting about every other month through the early winter until the Parade gets closer, then meets monthly in the late winter and early spring.
During the Gala and the Parade itself, Committee Members enjoy the fruits of their labor. Plus, they may help by driving award judges to each home or taking photos or helping with behind-the-scenes tasks.
TO WHOM DO THEY REPORT?
Once agreed upon by majority vote at the Committee level, a representative of the Committee recommends action items to the HBA Board of Directors for the Board to make a final decision.
WHAT’S THE INSIDE SCOOP?
Committees have no authority on their own. They cannot bind the association, decide action, or vary direction. Committees serve the Board of Directors.
